All year, the Corcoran College of Art + Design admissions counselors set out to find the next class of talented young artists. With jobs full of travel, talks, and meetings we caught these three ladies for just long enough to learn a little more about who they are:

Lindsey Dice:

What school did you attend?
I attended Marymount University in Arlington, VA. I studied Interior Design and Fine Art.

What territories do you cover?
My territory includes Maryland and the South Eastern United States (minus Virginia and Florida).

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to something thinking to apply?
Ask questions! Many times students think that their questions are silly, but your counselor wants to help. Check out our Corcoran Portfolios to see what our current students are doing.

Name something about yourself that other people might not know just from looking.
I am a HUGE sports fan. Playing, watching, whatever. I was a competitive cheerleader for 12 years and am probably the biggest Baltimore Ravens fan you will ever meet!

Brittney Stephenson:

Corcoran College of Art and Design Undergraduate Admissions Counselor Brittany Stephenson What is your position title and how long have you been at the Corcoran?
I am the Assistant Director of Admissions for Undergraduate students and I have been working for the Corcoran less than a month.

What school did you attend?
I received my B.A. in the Practice of Fine Arts, from the University of California, Berkeley. I also received my M.Ed. with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration and Policy from the University of California, Riverside.

What territories do you cover?
I currently cover the Midwest territories and Virginia.

As the newest Corcoran admissions counselor, what has stood out to you the most about the Corcoran?
The biggest thing that has stood out to me most about Corcoran is the small intimate family environment. Everyone knows each other and you can witness this close knit community whenever you walk through the halls. And you can get to know even more of our community members through our Corcoran People Tumblr.

Having gotten your undergraduate degree in art, what is your favorite medium to work in?
My favorite medium to work in would have to be oil paint.

Sarah Coombs:

Corcoran College of Art and Design Undergraduate Admissions Counselor Sarah Coombs What is your position title and how long have you been at the Corcoran?
I am an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor and I have been working at the Corcoran since fall of 2012.

What school did you attend?
I attended the Corcoran! I received my BFA in Fine Arts in 2010.

What territories do you cover?
My territory is the general Northeast area. The states where I recruit most heavily are DC, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.

What is something you’re really tired of seeing in portfolios from incoming applicants?
Every admissions cycle is a little bit different. This year it seems like we saw a lot of super colorful paintings of owls. The one thing we never get tired of seeing is artwork that students create when there isn’t anyone telling them how to make it. A self-motivated artist who speaks well about the execution of their work is always exciting!

As a Corcoran alum, what class did you enjoy taking at the Corcoran the most? Why was it your favorite class?
My favorite course was Janis Goodman’s drawing class! It was an all-inclusive approach to drawing; working from live models, as well as prompted and unprompted assignments utilizing any materials and mediums we wanted.
